Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market
In operation from 1935 to 2018, it was the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world. Approximately 1.6 billion yen (more than 11 millions Euro) worth of seafood was sold everyday on average. Particularly elaborated was the tuna fish auction, which started with the frozen fish unloading around 3am every morning. Then the auction houses estimated the value and prepared the incoming products for the bidding. The buyers also inspected the fish to chose which they would like to bid for and at what price. Now replaced by Toyosu market, the former historical complex of Tuskiji will developed into a convention center, with hotels and other facilities.
